Case Study - Innovations

“The Philips LED string system gives us freedom in design - an important consideration when working with separate letters in signage.”
Bob Janse, general manager, Gooren Lichtreclame

Background

The business objective of the REALIA Group is to promote, manage and exploit all kinds of property, including commercial, recreational and leisure centers. Before the client turned to Philips, the company had 50W halogen lamps installed, in addition to the 12W electromagnetic transformer (making a total of 65W for the installation), which meant that there were very high maintenance costs. What the client wanted to do was save energy, reduce the temperature of the lighting installations and reduce maintenance costs.

After launching their new brand identity, Heijmans NV was looking for ways to accentuate its image and give it “ultimate visibility”. Advised by Netherlands-based Gooren Lichtreclame, Heijmans NV specified Philips LED string system for their new headquarters signage, benefitting from its unique design freedom, ease of installation, low maintenance and low energy usage. Heijmans’ project leader Leon Mulder says he still feels proud every day when he passes the building.

The challenge

In 2005, Heijmans NV of Rosmalen The Netherlands, one of Holland’s leading building and construction companies, decided to change its brand identity. Progressive management seized this opportunity to align their corporate objectives with cutting-edge technology, in order to maximize exposure and enhance the company’s image in its market. For years the company’s bright yellow colours and big H logo were instantly recognizable. The new logo is still recognizable, but now more appropriate to a full service building company. “In recent years we have developed from a road builder into a full service supplier,” explains Leon Mulder, property manager and project owner within Heijmans. “Now we can construct an entire village, from the initial design to putting the tiles on the roofs. This called for a more complete and modern way of presenting the company. As we were moving into new headquarters, this was the perfect moment to change our branding.”

The solution

The light source used in this signage for Heijmans is the Philips LED string system. “The Philips LED string system gives us great freedom in design. That’s an important consideration when working with separate letters in signage. Next to that, the advanced, innovative nature of the technology is important. It requires low maintenance, it has a long lifetime and it’s very energy effi cient. And Philips’ LED products show real colours 24 hours a day,” explains Janse.

Heijmans’ property manager Mulder stresses the user-friendliness of the Philips LED string system, but emphasises the importance of visibility.

“Signage is very important for Heijmans. We want people to recognize our logo and to react to it positively. It’s our calling card.”

“ I still feel very proud every time I pass by our buildings and see the signs on the wall.”
